Thoughts for the day...

Here are a few things I have written over time that I just stumbled upon (some of the ideas are those of Victor Wallis)...

1. (on free speech) Conservatives haven't been able to maintain an iron grip on universities precisely because this is one place where free speech persists. If free speech were universal, falsely held conservative (and, for that matter, liberal) views would lose merit and support.

2. (on the American Dream) The original American ideology suggests that people should not be limited in their endeavors by the family and/or social class they are born into. However, family, class, and situation do indeed have a significant impact on one's opportunities. In other words, an indirect relationship between one's origins and one's level of 'success' has (in the US) replaced the historical relationship which was more direct. In order to advance beyond this, we need to move in a direction where the relationship between one's origins and one's level of success is nonexistent. (any ideas?)

3. (on emergency healthcare) One's access to life-saving and critical healthcare services should not be a factor of that individual's financial well-being. By the same token, one should not be forced into debilitating debt by receiving such healthcare.
